In order to have more personal interaction with the students, we visit the classrooms in-person when donating the books. We begin by giving a brief presentation. This includes information about the nonprofit, a discussion of why we love reading fantasy, and short advertisements for the books we are donating to the classroom library.

For the remainder of the period, we lead the class in a map drawing activity. Depending on the grade level, various amounts of direction and instruction are given. But ultimately, the students get to create any map that they want to (fantasy or otherwise). We provide antique styled paper, as well as all other art supplies needed. Our experience so far has shown the value of this activity: students love the creativity involved, and it gets them excited about the fantastical worlds to be found in the novels we donate. It also gives us a chance to talk with students individually. The books are set out so that anyone can come over and see what interests them; and if they are interested, check them out from the classroom library that very day.
